A free wipe, or a certified one
Every device gets erased. Paperwork proving it is a paid extra, because certified erasure takes time and licensed software.
Standard erase
We wipe every device that comes to us before it is reused, resold or recycled. You do not have to ask for it and you do not pay for it.

Certified erase

Worth knowing: on lower value single trade-ins a certified erase is not always something we can offer. If that applies to your device we will tell you before you commit, and your free erase still happens. For bulk collections we agree the price with you first.

Before you send, and what happens if a drive fails
A little preparation makes the process quicker, and a faulty drive is never a dead end.
Before sending your Mac
To keep things moving once your device reaches us, we recommend that you:
- Back up any files you want to keep
- Sign out of iCloud
- Turn off Find My Mac and Activation Lock
- Remove any firmware password
- Include any chargers or accessories that are part of your quote

What happens with failed drives?
If a drive is faulty, inaccessible or cannot be securely erased using software, we can:
- Remove the drive from the device
- Physically destroy the drive
- Provide confirmation on request
- Note it against the device on your asset report
Physical destruction means the data cannot be recovered, so a drive that will not wipe still leaves you with nothing to worry about.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Every device we take in is erased before it is reused, resold or recycled, and that is included at no cost. What you pay for is the certificate proving it, not the wipe itself.
It is good practice, and we would always recommend backing up and signing out of iCloud first. You do not have to erase it yourself though, because we will wipe it either way.
£14 per device on single trade-ins, added as an optional step when you get your quote. Bulk collections work out cheaper per device, and we agree the price with you before anything is collected.
Once your final price is agreed and we pay out, we send your certificates across at the same time. There is nothing extra for you to chase.
The certified erase is offered as an optional step during the quote process, so it is best added then. If you have already sent your device and want to ask, get in touch and we will see what we can do.
Not always. On lower value single trade-ins we may not be able to offer it, and we will tell you before you commit to anything. Your free erase still goes ahead regardless. For bulk collections we talk it through with you first.
Yes, from a handful of devices up to a full office clearance. We can provide asset lists, serial number records, erasure certificates and WEEE documentation. See IT asset disposal.
We remove the drive and physically destroy it instead, and we can confirm that in writing on request. It is recorded against the device on your asset report so your records stay complete.
